George Town is the capital of the Cayman Islands and the cruise port for Grand Cayman. Famous for its stunning Seven Mile Beach, crystal-clear waters, and the legendary Stingray City sandbar, Grand Cayman is one of the most beautiful and popular stops in the Western Caribbean.
Highlights
- Seven Mile Beach — One of the Caribbean's most famous beaches. Powder-white sand, calm turquoise water, and public access points along the strip. About 10 minutes by taxi from the port.
- Stingray City — A shallow sandbar where you can stand in waist-deep water and interact with friendly southern stingrays. One of the most iconic excursions in the Caribbean.
- Cayman Turtle Centre — A conservation facility and marine park where you can see and interact with sea turtles. Includes a snorkeling lagoon and waterslide.
- Snorkeling at Eden Rock & Devil's Grotto — Two excellent snorkeling sites right near the cruise tender dock in George Town. Swim-through caves and abundant marine life.
- Hell — A unique geological formation of jagged black limestone. The quirky gift shop lets you send postcards postmarked from "Hell."
- Rum Point — A quieter beach on the north side of the island with hammocks, calm water, and a relaxed atmosphere.
Tips for Kosher Travelers
- Chabad Cayman — Rabbi Berel Pewzner leads an active Jewish community of ~600 at the Chabad Cayman Jewish Community Center (215B West Bay Road). Weekly Shabbat services and meals available. The community has a mikvah and eruv. Contact: +1-345-516-4474 or chabadcaymanislands.com.
- Kosher food at resorts — Several luxury resorts stock frozen kosher meals ordered from Miami, including the Ritz-Carlton and Westin. Chabad can also arrange kosher food — contact them before your sailing.
- Eat on the ship — For guaranteed kosher meals, plan to return to the ship. Tender back for lunch.
- Bring sealed snacks — Especially for Stingray City and beach excursions. See our packing list.
- Tender port — Grand Cayman is a tender port. Tender lines can be long — go early to maximize your time.
- Snorkel near the pier — Eden Rock and Devil's Grotto are walking distance from the tender dock. No excursion needed for great snorkeling.
Port Guide
George Town is a tender port — your ship anchors offshore and passengers take tender boats to the dock in George Town harbor. The tender ride is about 5-10 minutes. Shopping, restaurants, and snorkeling sites are walking distance from the tender dock. Taxis and tour operators are available at the dock for trips to Seven Mile Beach, Stingray City, and the Turtle Centre.
US dollars are accepted everywhere. Credit cards are widely accepted. The island is very safe and English-speaking.
